All the spooky Halloween decorations are put away and the house is decorated for fall. Although it is still 70 degrees outside, with the amount of leaves on the ground, the crisp mornings and the fall décor it definitely feels like fall. One of my favorite fall decorations to put up is the handmade turkeys my kids and I made a few years ago. It is my most pinned project on Pinterest as well
For this project I took a scrap piece of wood we had lying around in the garage and I painted it with a tan colored acrylic paint. I took each of my kids hands and painted each finger a different fall color, and the thumb and palm brown. They stamped their hand down on the wood to form their turkeys. This was a little challenging with my at the time 1 year old but we managed. I then painted on the their names under their handprint and "our little turkeys, thanksgiving 2013" to finish it up. If you don't have a steady hand then stencils work great for this as well.
We hang our masterpiece every year right in the kitchen for all to see. Homemade decor is always the best especially when it's done by the kids.
